The surrounding
area of Huddersfield, Halifax and nearby Saddleworth
are areas of beautiful countryside, rolling hills,
heather moorland, a wealth of archaeological remains
from Scammonden, Pule hill and remote hamlets with
history spreading over many centuries. The Launds
Inn Museum is situated high on the Southern Pennines
between Golcar and Scammonden. The museum is popular
with walkers, cyclists, and tourists, and is directly
situated on the Kirklees Way, and within close proximity
of numerous other walks.
At just over 1175' feet above sea level. The local
scenery is breathtaking to say the least, the surrounding
area offers plenty of attractions for all the family,
here's a small sample:-
Rockingstone
|
 |
The Rockingstone, also known locally as 'Druid's Rock', is situated only yards from Launds.
The stone is somewhat of a mystery as little is known about it's origins, although it is mentioned in the Broadbent's of Launds family documents.

Scammonden
|
 |
Scammonden reservoir is located a mile from Launds.
The reservoir was completed in 1971 and opened by the Queen. The M62 motorway (the highest in England) that crosses the pennines, runs along the top of the dam head - quite an amazing feat of engineering! Activities at Scammonden water include sailing, walking and it is ideal in the summer for picnics. Part of the old hamlet of Broadlee lies beneath the water.

All the old families of the Pole, Scammonden and the surrounding villages are buried here including a few Broadbent ancestors and former occupiers of Launds!
